Christian Formation for Youth Grades pre-K-7
Research tells us that the more our children are in church, the more likely they will be in church as adults. So we want our kids in church, and we provide age appropriate activities for them: Rector’s Reporters for our elementary aged kids and the Sunday Paper Junior for younger kids with the gospel story to color and an explanation on the back for parents to discuss with their children. There are also soft toys and books in the back of the church for our youngest children.
Please take advantage of the special weekend offerings described in the boxes below. All children are welcome!
2022-2023
Saturday Morning Story Time
Each Saturday morning from September through June, a new story read by Mother Susan (or a guest reader) will be posted on our Facebook page. You do not need to have a Facebook account to click here and read.
Nursery
Over the years we have discovered that most parents of our youngest children are happiest when they are in church rather than in a space set apart. So are we. To make things easier we have soft toys and books in the back. Parents should feel free to walk restless children around. But don’t worry about noise! We love to hear the voices of our littlest members chime in during the service!
Children & Church
February 12, 2023
11 am – 1 pm
Lunch will be served
Together we will explore our church as a building, as a community, and as a way of serving our neighbors. We’ll have a scavenger hunt in the church, listen to stories and sing songs as a community, and make Valentines for the residents of West Shore Nursing Home as a way to serve our neighbors.
Let’s Pray
October 16, 2022
11 am – 1 pm
Lunch will be served
Children will explore prayer in a variety of ways: through art, crafts, story, and song. They will learn the Lord’s Prayer, try “praying in color” and make their own Prayer Beads. We will talk about the various reasons to pray: to thank God, to praise God, and to ask for help for ourselves or others.
Shrove Tuesday
February 21, 2023
6 – 6:30 pm
Pancake Supper follows
Spend time with Mother Susan learning about the season of Lent – and then eat pancakes, join in races, help bury the Alleluia, and burn palms to make ashes for Ash Wednesday.
Bible Stories about Jesus
April 30, 2023
11 -11:30 am
Especially for our preschoolers
Children will learn about Jesus through familiar Bible stories like “The Feeding of the 5000” and “Zacchaeus” the wee little man who climbed a tree to better see Jesus.
There will be songs, too.
All this will take place during the May Breakfast!
