Children

Children are always welcome in our church!

All ages are welcome in Church. Our sanctuary is a safe place for any age. Children are always welcome to coo, whisper, talk or walk around. We have a small basket of toys at the back of the sanctuary. And we offer Rector’s Reporters activity sheets for children 5-10 years old. We believe that children are a vital part of the Kingdom of God and their presence should be celebrated.

For older students (middle school and high school) particularly for those who have been baptized, we encourage them to get involved as a scripture reader or acolyte. When schedules allow, some of our teen acolytes carry the gospel book or torches on Sunday mornings.

If you are searching for the right Parish to baptize your children you can share your information with the Rev. Julia Matallana Freedman here. And she will reach out to you soon.

Here at St. Mark’s we are very proud to say that children’s movement, noise or anything else children do in worship is warmly welcomed. We do not find their presence distracting or burdensome to the parish community.

Nursery

Over the years we have discovered that most parents of our youngest children are happiest when they are in church rather than in a space set apart. So are we. To make things easier we have soft toys and books in the back. Parents should feel free to walk restless children around. But don’t worry about noise! We love to hear the voices of our littlest members chime in during the service!
